From pioneering electro-funk at Manchester's Haçienda to redefining the art of the re-edit, Greg Wilson has spent five decades shaping British dance music culture.

Few DJs can claim to have witnessed, let alone helped shape, as many chapters of British club culture as Greg Wilson. Beginning his career in 1975, the Merseyside selector became a pivotal figure in the early electronic dance music movement, introducing New York's emerging electro-funk sound to audiences at Manchester's Legend and the legendary Haçienda. In 1983, he became the first British DJ to demonstrate live mixing on television before stepping away from the decks for two decades. His return in 2003 sparked a remarkable second chapter, with his acclaimed Credit to the Edit compilations introducing his distinctive approach to disco, funk and electronic reworks to a new generation. His celebrated 2009 BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix further cemented his reputation, while his continued work as a DJ, remixer, writer and dance music historian has made him an enduring link between the foundations of club culture and its contemporary evolution.
