For Roger Martinez, the dancefloor is a place for exploration, connection and something approaching transcendence. Coming of age in Amsterdam's club scene during the late 1990s, the Dutch DJ and producer absorbed the sounds of Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox and Secret Cinema, developing a fascination with deep grooves and hypnotic electronic music. His distinctive four-deck mixing style allows him to construct extended journeys that move between progressive house, techno and atmospheric electronica, often unfolding over several hours. In the studio, his productions have found homes on influential labels including Guy J's Lost & Found, Sudbeat, Anjunadeep, UV, Mango Alley and Tronic, while his own Higher States imprint provides an outlet for his more exploratory musical ideas. With a sound built around ethereal textures, intricate percussion and patient progression, Martinez approaches electronic music as something more than dancefloor entertainment, finding room for introspection and emotional connection within its hypnotic rhythms
